Students at our school come from a wide variety of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. As a Title I school, many of our students don't have anyone at home to take them to the library, let alone buy new reading materials that are theirs to keep. Despite the difficulties that can be present in a community like ours, our school is filled with happiness. We have many caring members of our community who volunteer or donate to support the needs of our students. Our staff is dedicated to helping students succeed, and our students are eager to learn in turn. Our school is transitioning to a departmentalized model. This means that students will have a two hour block dedicated to Language Arts and Social Studies. This is an incredible tool that will allow students to delve into topics that were previously just grazed on. I am dedicated to making these deep connections, but we need the resources to do it.
