Our district has adopted Curriculum 5.0, which merges the existing state standards and Curriculum 4.0 with Teaching Tolerance. Our board has approved dozens of relevant and contemporary books per grade level, and after reading them all I am very excited to use some as extended texts. I have chosen four titles (one per quarter) to focus on this year.
As this is the first year with the new adoption, we are running low on book numbers in the district. I do not want to wait another year to start reading these high-interest books. Funding this will allow me a full class set of each book in my classroom. We will read in class so books will not be lost and can be used for future students.
