Hello and welcome to Mr. Nykiel's Music Class at Memorial Elementary School. Memorial Elementary is a Title 1 Public school which serves over 600 students from all over Highlands County FL in grades VPK-5. About 66% of students receive free or reduced lunch. Despite these obstacles Memorial Elementary is great community school with a loving staff. We're a PBIS school that strives to provide a positive learning experience for each student that steps onto our campus.
When students come to my class I create an engaging learning environment where they listen, perform and create music through active participation. I teach K-5 Music where students learn hands on through singing, moving and playing instruments. We also learn how to read music, use critical thinking and integrate reading and writing through listening journals and music history. Additionally I lead an after school chorus for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students.
