Often times, students get hung up on one of two choices in life: Should they do what they love? Or do what is practical? The graphic novel, "Level Up" shows the journey the protagonist goes through to find his passion through his career. My students are seniors who are getting ready to go out into the real world. This class asks students to think about the impact they want to make on society and how they can make their passions part of their careers. My students will be designing a semester long project that details the changes they want to make, and actually asks them to start making this impact by building relationships to set them in the right direction.
This novel will provide my students with a fun, engaging example of how someone can use their passions to motivate them to find a successful place in their future. We will be reading this novel in class to motivate students to begin thinking about their projects. Through reading this engaging text, students will hopefully begin to understand how someone uses their passions to impact society. This novel will show them that it is possible to do both. This novel provides them with the steps and encouragement to begin working on their own senior project to use their passions in their future career.
