I would like to get some comfortable seats for the kids to use on the floor so that they feel welcome and are excited to read. Kids love getting to sit in special chairs and I think it will help them be more enthusiastic about reading. It will also facilitate a place for students to calm down if they are upset or angry. It will be a privilege for them to do independent work in that area when they are being exceptional. I know that in order for me to be excited about reading, I need to be comfortable and sometimes classrooms can feel institutional.
Having a variety of materials and writing implements will help the students be motivated to write and excited to describe and illustrate their work. I know as a teacher, writing with a pencil is fine but it's not nearly as exciting and fun as writing with a colored marker or pen. Kids feel the same way. These kids don't bring supplies in like other schools in our county because they simply can't afford it. The pocket charts will hold their schedule so they know what to expect throughout the day. It will also let them know what centers they will be in during power hour. I've included some educational games as well so they have some fun things to do during inside recess. This is my first year teaching so I have hardly any supplies that I would have by now if I had been teaching. I have had some support from friends thankfully, but these other supplies would be very beneficial to facilitate a higher learning environment. I also included some educational math games I want these kids to have the same things other kids have so that they have a fair playing field.
