These three novels, Fish in a Tree, Freak the Mighty and Out of My Mind, were selected because they each deal with young adults dealing with a physical or mental disability. All of my students have a disability and struggle accepting the daily challenges that come from their label. By reading these novels as a class they will discover and identify with each book's characters mental or physical disability. These materials will give students access to three different novels that will encourage them to not only build their reading skills but also learn how to deal with their own personal disability.
