I always teach my students about the important tools that scientists use, such as microscopes. Having a microscope to actually use will help to re-enforce the idea that they are scientists. In our life science units we look at different insects and their body parts. Students will be able to use the microscopes to look at the real insects, which makes a bigger impact on their understanding. Inquiry is an important part of science. By having a microscope that I can connect to my computer I can show images to the whole group as opposed to one at a time under a regular microscope. The digital camera will allow us to photograph our subject and make comparisons over time.
As a low income/high poverty school, many of my students do not have access to tools such as microscopes outside of school. Providing my young scientists with the requested Amscope-Kids microscopes, one of the scientist's most essential tools, will provide a more well-rounded scientific experience. Students will be able to discover just how big their world is by looking at its smallest pieces.
