We are a Charter School for the Arts located in the sunshine state. Our children come to us from broken and disadvantaged homes, yet each has a unique gift to offer. We offer classes in the Arts and Academics to over 2,000 students in grades 6-12 and continue to grow each year. However, our funding does not keep up with us. We have very little technology at our school with little to no funds to purchase it.
My students are hard working, dedicated kiddos who do not have much technology at home as they come to us with little means. We are a high poverty school.
The world is growing and changing, and technology is part of people's lives; however it is not part of my students' lives.
We have 4 donated laptops in our class with 28 children trying to use them to conduct research, read and practice for tests which are going to be online this year.
I believe there is a wide misconception that all schools have Smartboards, Elmos, computers, ect. in their classrooms. We do NOT!
