I teach at a Title One school where most of my students come from single-parent, low socio-economic homes. Over 89% of our students receive free and reduced lunch. Within our population, our diverse culture ranges from 85% African American, 6% Caucasian, 13% Hispanic, 5% Asian, and 1% Muslim. Our school has been a failing school for two years now. The state has taken over our school and we are striving to take our kids out of that pit hole. Although they face many circumstances beyond their control, I strive to make our classroom a place where they feel loved, valued, and where learning is always meaningful and pleasant everywhere they go.
I desire to provide an atmosphere that allows them to take ownership of their learning and opportunities to express their learning in creative and hands-on ways.
Each student has a unique gift inside of them and a desire to persevere in their learning!
