Students in our school's Performing Arts & Communications Academy are passionate about the arts and interested in a variety of performing and behind-the-scenes careers in this field. Most of our students have not had the opportunity to travel to New York City and see a Broadway play before. This is the first time in years that we've been able to offer an opportunity like this to our academy students, and we are hoping to be able to send our most disadvantaged students with no personal cost.
Viewing and analyzing a professional production (especially the exceptional quality of a popular Broadway musical like WICKED) will allow these students a unique opportunity to see their skill sets put into action by professionals in careers that could be our students' futures. This interdisciplinary trip will also allow students to learn about the marketing side of show business, as they will participate in a workshop before the show with casting directors and leading teaching artists. Starting with the workshop will give students new knowledge to use as a lens for deeper appreciation of the show itself, and will help our group engage in meaningful discussion of our learning after the show!
