I teach 18 special education preschool students with a variety of disabilities integrated with 9 typical peers. Each one of my students is eager to learn the tasks that you and I take for granted on a daily basis. Things as easy as holding a crayon or pencil in a tripod grasp, stinging beads, or even holding scissors and be able to open and shut them. Students first exposure to materials like crayons, scissors, peg boards and beads to string might begin in my classroom. All of the items the items in my classroom are used to encourage and support language development. Many people would say that preschool is just about playing. Through play children develop speech, social skills, adaptive skills, gross and fine motor skills and cognitive skills. Research shows that 90 percent of the brain is developed between birth to 5.1. With Early Intervention we can make a lasting impression in our students lives.
