Students learned to play several pieces written especially for hand drum. They were able to move with them while they played and experienced reading music through the process. \r\n\r\nWhen the boxes of drums began arriving, I invited students to help unpack them and nest them in size order. That helped them to understand about the size / pitch relationship - generally small instruments have high voices and large instruments have low voices.\r\n\r\nAlthough I have left that school, the drums remain and are being used with the students and their new music teacher.
