My students had an unforgettable time exploring light, sound, and circuits through hands-on STEM projects that truly brought our standards to life.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments happened with a 5th-grade class as they built their light sabers. After a few students figured out how to complete the circuit, they instantly became \"circuit experts,\" helping their classmates troubleshoot and succeed. By the end, they were proudly decorating their sabers with colored tape—sharing materials, offering creative ideas, and turning each one into something uniquely their own. When we turned off the lights to test them, the room lit up with glowing beams, laughter, and pure excitement.\r\n\r\nOur 3rd graders were equally amazed as they built their kaleidoscopes and watched the reflections of light bounce and spin inside the tubes. Meanwhile, 4th graders explored sound energy by creating kazoos and experimenting with pitch. They loved discovering how small changes could affect the sound, and the room quickly filled with music, curiosity, and a bit of joyful noise!\r\n\r\nBecause we are a Title I school, many students rarely get the opportunity to take home something they built with their own hands. The pride they felt walking out the door with their light sabers, kaleidoscopes, and kazoos was heartwarming. Many couldn't wait to show their families and explain the science behind what they created.\r\n\r\nWe will continue using these materials this year with our new 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. I also plan to explore adding an Everglades twist to our projects to support our schoolwide environmental focus.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping us power up hands-on science learning. Due to the completion time-line of the funding, the air dry snake coil pot project was the FIRST project of the year for my fifth grade students, and they rocked it. Coming from a summer off, most students unable to make any form of art due to lack of materials, this was a very exciting prospect for them. Kids love clay, love getting their hands dirty and love building anything with their hands. With so many students (about 200 5th graders), this project pushed me as a teacher to learn how to teach the clay hand-building technique of coiling to a younger age than my previous experience, and doing so in an effective way with very short classroom times . \r\n\r\nMy students loved this project and stayed engaged the entire time. This took 4, 55 minutes classes from start to finish and they learned so much! It was rewarding to see them so excited, even through their frustrations, they were focused and set on learning how to wield the clay and be successful at it. Because of my student numbers, it is challenging to afford clay projects, but thanks to your generous donations, my students were able to have this experience. Like I mentioned previously, most of my students don't even have access to markers at home, so all art creating happens at school and I'm proud that their learning does not have to be stunted because of their life situations. \r\n\r\nNext project in mind involves radial weaving! The kids have expressed so much interest in learning fiber art, I feel like I have to indulge!","fullyFundedDate":1746648648066,"projectUrl":"project/make-coil-pots-snakes-with-air-dry-clay/9079391/","projectTitle":"Make Coil Pots Snakes! with Air Dry Clay","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Surrena","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9907071"},{"teacherId":3626134,"projectId":9444758,"letterContent":"First off, thank you so much for your donation to our classroom! During 5 senses, I used one of the Create Your Own cards and recorded a bunch of 5 senses books onto them and added a few songs. They loved listening to the songs and following along in the books! Each week we use a different instrument to keep my special needs students interested in learning how to follow along with various beats, rhythms and patterns with music. On music days they get very excited when they see the instruments being pulled out. My using instruments in the classroom, I have also learned that self control is very hard for my students, they always want to make noise with their instuments even befor instructions are given. This has given me a great opportunity to also teach self control during our music lesson. The students are told when they get their instrument to place it on the floor in front of them until an instruction is given and when they hear the word Freeze they are to stop playing their instrument and place it on the floor, THis is a work in progress. As we continue to play our instruments I plan to incorporate many different lessons, for example counting sylables with instruments and counting the beats as they listen to a peer play.","fullyFundedDate":1750108104316,"projectUrl":"project/learning-through-music/9218247/","projectTitle":"Learning Through Music","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Beaulieu","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9987641"},{"teacherId":9991363,"projectId":9234730,"letterContent":"We want to extend our heartfelt thanks for your generous contributions that made it possible for our PE department to purchase new equipment. We aren't close to our motion unit yet, but I showed my students the hands on materials that this project provided and they were begging to play with them.\r\n\r\nWe just finished our unit on 5 senses through our science center and their favorite part of the center were the sound canisters.
