Several of them literally stopped at the door and said, \"No way—this is for us?\" They were even more excited when I let them help assemble the new benches and racks. That sense of ownership made the equipment feel even more meaningful. Since then, we've been using the materials every day in our strength-training unit, where students complete individualized weight-training programs based on their 1-rep maxes for squats, bench press, and power cleans. One of my favorite moments so far happened when a student who had struggled with confidence finally hit a new personal best on squats—and immediately turned around to spot and encourage a classmate. The teamwork, pride, and accountability have been incredible to witness.\r\n\r\nThese new resources are helping us meet Georgia's 9th–12th Grade Physical Education standards, particularly those that focus on demonstrating competency in motor skills and movement patterns, understanding fitness concepts, setting personal fitness goals, and engaging in regular physical activity to improve health. With the new equipment, students can safely perform the core lifts required in our curriculum, track their progress over time, and apply what they're learning about muscular strength, endurance, and proper technique.\r\n\r\nRight now, our next steps involve students creating individualized training plans based on their newly established maxes. They'll be analyzing their data, setting goals for the next quarter, and learning how to adjust training variables like sets, reps, and rest—skills that support lifelong fitness habits. Having high-quality equipment makes these lessons far more meaningful because students can apply concepts directly and safely.","fullyFundedDate":1759184492521,"projectUrl":"project/lifting-up-students-through-fitness/9642148/","projectTitle":"Lifting Up Students Through Fitness","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Worsham","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5434369_orig.jpg?crop=290,290,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1690481492373","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/j-worsham"},{"teacherId":2083947,"projectId":9521989,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generous support of our Pennies to Prosperity project. Your contribution made it possible for our students to access materials that brought curiosity, creativity, and confidence into our learning space.\r\nBecause of your kindness, our classroom environment transformed into a place where students could explore new ideas, collaborate, and engage meaningfully with hands-on learning tools. From the moment the materials arrived, students' excitement was unmistakable—smiles, questions, and \"Can we start now?\" filled the room.\r\nThese resources were used daily and allowed students to develop essential literacy, research, and critical-thinking skills. Many of our students do not always have access to enrichment materials at home, so the opportunity to use them at school expanded their world in powerful ways. Students practiced organization and inquiry, enhanced their digital literacy, strengthened their reading stamina, and grew in their ability to express themselves clearly.\r\nYour gift did more than provide materials—it created moments of joy, breakthroughs in understanding, and the belief that their learning matters. You invested not only in a classroom, but in the future of each child who walked through our library doors.\r\nOn behalf of our entire school community, thank you for believing in our students and supporting their success. Your generosity has already made a difference in the lives of our students. At our alternative school, we remind them often, \"It's not how you start, but how you finish.\" Your support has helped us put those words into action by providing a simple but powerful tool—snacks—that motivate, comfort, and open the door for deeper conversations.\r\n\r\nFor example, one of my students who is usually quiet and hesitant to engage began to participate more after being offered a snack. What started as a small gesture grew into meaningful discussions about his goals and what he wants to accomplish after graduation. These moments are possible because of your kindness. Our students recognize that someone believes in them, and that encouragement inspires them to keep pushing forward.\r\n\r\nThank you for partnering with us in this important work.
