We took turns guessing what might be in the box before we opened it. When we started pulling different items out of the box, they started guessing and naming each item. They were so excited to see everything and wanted to touch everything right away.\r\n\r\nWe have slowly been introducing the items in each cup and talking about what letter the items start with. While we are talking about each letter, we are working on the sound the letter makes and talking about how each item starts with the same letter and sound. Being at the preschool level, many of these kiddos have never been to school before so the first day was hard for some of them to leave their parents! Your self-regulation donation items have been used by many kiddos who needed a safe area with calming objects to help them regulate and be ready to learn! \r\n\r\nI know these items will be used very often throughout the school year as children become dysregulated. Not only do these items help students calm down, they help the children learn how to ask for the tools they need when they become upset. Each student took so much time, patience and pride with each of their pieces. One by one they got to tie dye their socks with the student teacher. The laughter and smiles as they took their pieces outside to dye filled the air. Then when they returned they went straight to work on decorating their hats. After each student completed they couldn't wait to show their peers their creations. When field day arrived each student was so excited to put on their matching shirts, tie dyed socks and decorated hats.
