Today we thought we were able to go the gym for gross motor but unexpectedly we were not able to so we played ball instead and had a blast! It was great to have my students read a wordless book with their words while they learned new vocabulary about balls! After reading the story students learned the new ball vocabulary of golf balls, volleyball, ping pong ball, bocce ball and they enjoyed seeing the picture of a ball pit and were excited to talk about their time in a ball pit! They also enjoyed playing throw and catch and with the bouncy balls! These scholastic news magazines provide an opportunity for my students to practice book handling independently, as they each receive one every two weeks! Together in class, we read through the scholastic news. We practice identifying the front cover, the title and letters. Inside, students are able to follow along as we read together. \r\nThe magazines are a great visual tool for my English language learners too. All the pictures provide another context clue to the meaning of new words. The language used is simple enough that students can begin to find sight words too.
