Because of your support, our students have gained hands-on experiences that are already transforming their confidence, independence, and readiness for future community-based work opportunities.\r\n\r\nThis year, our students have learned to assemble mechanical items—including model car engines, terminals, and flashlights—while discovering how electricity moves through each component. They practiced identifying the correct batteries for different items and troubleshooting when things didn't work as expected. One student especially impressed us by independently completing a detailed model of a car engine. Through these projects, students have expanded their vocabulary, strengthened number recognition, improved their ability to follow photos and diagrams, and demonstrated perseverance when challenges arose.\r\n\r\nYour contributions also allowed students to explore practical daily-living skills. They baked cupcakes for their families for Thanksgiving—measuring, mixing, filling, baking, and decorating entirely on their own. They have learned to read and follow multi-step directions, fold towels and sheets, wash laundry, and use a washer and dryer safely and effectively. Additionally, they practiced wrapping silverware for events and developed basic cleaning skills using tools such as a carpet sweeper and vacuum.\r\n\r\nThese experiences have not only built functional life skills but have also helped students discover meaningful leisure activities. Many have found joy in puzzles, reading, and building projects—interests that promote independence and personal fulfillment.\r\n\r\nAll of these activities are intentionally preparing our students for the next step: generalizing these skills into real work experiences within the community by February 2026. We could not have made this level of impact without the supplies you helped us purchase for the first year of our Transitional Life Skills Program.\r\n\r\nEvery student has shown remarkable growth. Their progress reflects your belief in their abilities and your investment in their future. They are becoming more confident, capable, and ready to live productive, independent lives in our community—should they choose to do so.\r\n\r\nOur hearts are full.\r\n\r\n\"Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it.\" — William Arthur Ward**","fullyFundedDate":1759348505283,"projectUrl":"project/building-life-skills-through-experiences/9656588/","projectTitle":"Building Life Skills through Experiences","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Davis","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7723542"},{"teacherId":5221494,"projectId":8939910,"letterContent":"Your generous gift of snacks for my classes was tremendously appreciated! Students who struggled with paying attention or staying awake were suddenly different people. They would come in and ask to have a snack, and then they perked right up. So many of them do not have adequate nutrition, so getting a good snack is very important. Some of these students are athletes, and by the time the last two class periods came around, they were so hungry. Now they are able to have a snack and go off to their respective sports. \r\n\r\nMy students were not only staying awake, but also smiling, engaging with others, taking notes, asking questions, and telling me they felt better because of the snacks! One young lady stayed after class one day and said the following: \"Mrs.____, those snacks help me stay awake and actually help me THINK! Thank you for providing those. I look forward to them every day!\"\r\n\r\nI am so grateful! My students are better thinkers, feel better about themselves, and are able to function and not fall asleep because of your generous gift of snacks! My students were so excited to get to choose between The Boys in the Boat, Unbroken, and The Alchemist. We are using these novels to read and discuss the indomitable human spirit. We also analyze the characters' development and how our responses to conflict shape who we become. Many students could relate to the characters in the novels regarding conflicts and challenges they personally have faced. Several students also could see how kindness, perseverance, determination, sacrifice, and love shape the outcomes of the struggling characters and are more powerful than anger or revenge. \r\nFor the first time in my high school teaching career (10+ years), I had high school students seek me out to ask me if they could read ahead. Some simply came up to me and said, \"I am sorry Mrs. I finished the book last night. I couldn't stop turning the pages.\" I couldn't be more happy!!! Students have found a love of reading and are excited to pick up books. We will finish our unit with a literary analysis showing how the human spirit can endure and be resilient in spite of conflicts. \r\nThank you so much for making this possible!","fullyFundedDate":1733377898704,"projectUrl":"project/current-books-for-current-students/8942364/","projectTitle":"Current Books for Current Students","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Eilers","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5221494"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_35666","usesÐǿմ«Ã½":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":594,"numTeachers":23,"percentFrplEligible":83,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":14,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":85,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"25.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":49.1,"schoolId":35666,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Royal High School on @Ðǿմ«Ã½:","schoolName":"Royal High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/washington/royal-school-district-160/royal-high-school/35666"}
