The Christmas Ornament Day was AMAZING! The kids loved having such cute crafts that were simple enough that they were successful, but with plenty of room to be creative. We have approximately 75 kids in Sumus House, with about 25 in each grade. Between this project and another project, we were able to let each grade do a different ornament so our finished Christmas tree has some variety. The kids are really proud of their work and excited to take them home to give to their parents from Christmas. \r\n\r\nBesides the finished product, the kids learned important fine-motor skills. Students are practicing decoding, fluency, and vocabulary development in Spanish—skills that directly transfer to stronger reading abilities in English as well. Many of the texts also introduce cultural themes, folktales, and characters that students deeply relate to. This helps them build confidence, comprehension, and cultural awareness all at once. They're learning to discuss plot, identify themes, analyze characters, and make inferences in the language in which they feel most capable.\r\nYour support hasn't just added books to our shelf—it has affirmed students' identities, strengthened their literacy foundation, and brought joy and confidence to readers who deserve it.
